nucular disagreement

an excerpt from the drawing notebook with the small rabbit on the front of elliot byrne:
"
Nuclear Proliferation and Deterrence in Our Globalized World
-Words I never thought I would see on a screen in a school in China, for sure. A blonde-haired white man in a suit with an off-color tie stands tall and lonely before a sizable group of youngsters.

(One of the slides) China: The Growing Nuclear Tiger (a chuckle from the crowd)

Legitimacy : n. 1. International Relations term referring to international sovereignty of a county being enhanced by the acquisition of nuclear weapons, for example. ex. North Korea seeks to gain further legitimacy on the international stage by the acquisition of nuclear arms.
2. International Division term referring to the enhancement of value of the foreign teachers, thus validating the amount of money spent on said teachers. ex. In response to the criticism of allocating too much funds for the acquisition of foreign english teachers, the head of the international division created a new program of foreing teacher lectures, thereby enhancing the legitimacy of the foreign teacher program.
3. An attempt by a government (more importantly, a nuclear power) to seem appeasing and innocuous whereby allowing schools to give lectures taught by foreign teachers (spec Americans) about nuclear proliferation to its top students. The aim here being to teach the children how to manipulate through polite condescension and to make both governments, at least in appearance, feel at ease. ex. This lecture is all about legitimacy yo.

And then, Scott's lecture becomes purely a political statement where he's just practicing for when he runs for office. It's a good thing that he was most likely talking too fast for most of the kids.

(scratch that)

Q&A section: (one senior stands, directs Scott to flip back to one powerpoint slide) What are ways to prevent proliferation of nuclear weapons to a particular country?... (and then the student draws his attention to one particular subcategory of that slide)... Security Agreement (Taiwan and Japan)

You may wish to correct this slide as it shows Taiwan being referred to as a country and we all know that this is not true.

snap

watching a practicing politico backpedal is what i call a good time
